Local Lifestyle

There's a little something for everyone in Palm Bay. Most residents enjoy outdoor activities, whether of the country club variety or those that take advantage of local waterways and green space.

While Palm Bay is usually described as bustling, that's only relative to Florida's central coast. Overall, the area has a relaxed, work-hard-and-play-harder feel. Residents are proud of the positive changes their hometown has experienced of late, including better access to the activities they love, new attractions, and excellent services.

Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping

Palm Bay is rich with shopping opportunities, from national chain stores to boutique clothing, housewares, and gift shops. If you're looking for entertainment, you'll find art house theatres, blockbuster multiplexes, the Palm Bay Symphony, and several ongoing art exhibits. And, of course, excellent dining.

The Broken Barrel Tavern has an expansive beer selection and some of the best BBQ in the state. The Copper Chimney Grill and Bar is known for its great food and entertainment; locals flock here for trivia night, karaoke, and comedy shows.

The Shack's outdoor seating has the best view of the Indian River and lays claim to having the biggest Tiki bar in Florida. And Long Doggers, a favorite regional chain of laid-back, surf-shack-style restaurants, has a location here in Palm Bay. Finally, we recommend Crafty Crab for an intimate evening of fine seafood dining in a charming nautical atmosphere.

Things to Do

Palm Bay is the ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts. Castaway Point Park is a highly-accessible place for enjoying Indian River views, picnicking, pier fishing, and walking along the scenic, paved pathways. There's also a convenient kayak and paddleboard launch.

Take your kids to play on the renovated Arc Park pirate ship-themed playground or the play structures and boat launch at Goode Park, located on the shores of Turkey Creek. For the best public park amenities, visit Fred Poppe Regional Park. There's disc golf, a fantastic dog park, a community center, and several athletic fields supporting soccer, baseball, and beach volleyball.

The crown jewel of Palm Bay's natural spaces is Turkey Creek Sanctuary, a 130-acre preserve with plenty of improved footpaths and boardwalks, paddling opportunities, and a visitor center. Hire a tour guide or explore the waterway to spot manatees, alligators, and abundant avian species. There are always events in Palm Bay, many of them hosted by the city's Parks and Recreation Department, so check in with their calendar to find out what's worth putting on yours.
